INTRODUCTION TO KNITTING FOR KIDS

Learn the basics of knitting for kids with this simple butterfly. You will learn about casting on stitches, the knit stitch, and how to do a simple increase. Make 1 or 100 to decorate your room or give to friends. You will need 1-2 colors of a worsted weight yarn and single point size US 6 needles. Recommended age: 8 and up. By Debbie Matthias.

BEGINNING KNITTING FOR KIDS: Headband

Start knitting with this kid-friendly class. Learn the basics of how to cast on, knit and purl stitches, and bind off by making a fun headband. You will need a skein of Encore Mega and single point size US 11 needles. Recommended age: 8 and up. By Debbie Matthias.

INTRODUCTION TO CROCHET FOR KIDS

Crochet is a great introduction for kids to get into the fiber arts. Learn the basic techniques of making a chain and single crochet by making this adorable butterfly. Then make this fun little owl where you'll learn some additional stitches, how to increase, and learn how to change colors. A fun summer project! You will need to purchase 1 skein each of 2 colors in a worsted weight yarn (we recommend Encore) and an H (5.0 mm) hook. Recommended age: 8 and up. By Debbie Matthias.

INTERMEDIATE CROCHET FOR KIDS: Beaded Fidget Hedgehog

Learn some of the basics of amigurumi and how to read an amigurumi pattern while making a pocket-sized fidget. This pattern mostly uses single crochet but also has a cluster stitch and pony beads that are crocheted into the project. We will cover how to add beads using a crochet hook. We will supply the beads. Recommended age: 8 and up. By Rebecca Cook.

  • Yarn Barn will cancel a class 3 days prior to class start if the enrollment is below the minimum number; refunds will be issued.
  • Unless noted, materials are not included in the class fee; we have a recommended list of supplies for each class.
  • Students will receive a discount off most yarns during the class period.
