WEAVING KROKBRAGD WITH DEBBY GREENLAW (AN ONLINE WEAVING CLASS)

Krokbragd weaving is a traditional Norwegian weft-faced twill weaving technique in which the warp is completely covered.  The fabric is sturdy and dense and ideal for rugs, wall hangings, and table linens.   It is a wonderful way to get creative with color while still maintaining symmetry and form in a woven structure.

Over 3 days, you will learn about the history, structure, and common motifs of Krokbragd.  Debby Greenlaw, author of  2 books  Krokbragd: How to Design & Weave and Krokbragd Patterns, will share tips for color and yarn selection, selvage management, and finishing techniques.  You will weave a Krokbragd sampler and learn about what makes this unique weave structure so much fun to do-- all in the comfort of your own home!  You can use any loom that allows you to weave with a minimum of 3 shafts or the ability to make 3 different sheds.  Your class fee includes all the yarn needed for your class, shipped in time for you to have your loom dressed and ready for the first day of the online zoom class.

TRANSPARENT TAPESTRIES

In this class, we will be creating designs on plain weave fabric using inlaid supplemental wefts. WEFT-FACED WEAVING TECHNIQUES

Stripes, pick-and-pick, hatching, and Soumak are techniques you will learn to create colorful designs and textures in a weft-faced fabric woven in plain weave.  You will learn techniques that can be used in rugs, tapestries, placemats, or any item that calls for a dense fabric.  In class, you will weave a small rug and weave at 24 ppi to ensure a dense and weft-faced fabric.  Bring at least 2 colors of Sport weight yarn (1600 ypp) for the weft, but the more colors you bring, the more creative you can be.   You can bring a pre-threaded rigid heddle loom or harness loom with either a 7.5- or 8-dent heddle/reed to class, but you may also rent one from us.  By Bea Bonanno.
