We had been looking for a 100% wool yarn that we could count on for long-wearing blankets. Blue Mountain Wool fits the bill. It is 100% wool, but not superwash, so it has a natural feel. It is worsted spun for extra durability. And it comes in a good range of colors to suit color schemes from neutrals to pastels to dark academia. It also has good tartan colors. Blue Mountain Wool feels a little stiff right off the tube but wet finishing lets it bloom and soften.

Blue Mountain Wool is also a good option for overshot pattern weft. Pair it with a warp of 8/2 cotton for a very traditional look.
