ROBYN SPADY

We are excited to welcome Robyn Spady to the Yarn Barn with two workshops this spring. A certified master weaver, Robyn's enthusiasm for teaching became apparant when we were discussing what workshop we should offer and she said, "Basically, teaching energizes me. If I'm awake, there is little more that I enjoy doing than spending time in the company of other weavers and sharing with them!" With that enthusiasm in mind, we're pleased to offer Extreme Warp Makeover: Unlock the Potential of a Single Threading and Block Party: Designing with the Building Blocks of Weaving April 10-13 with two lectures in the evenings on April 10 and 11.

EXTREME WARP MAKEOVER: Unlock the Potential of a Single Threading

If warping and dressing your loom is at the bottom of your list of favorite things about weaving, learn how to get more versatility from a single warp. you will dress your loom with one of three 4-shaft threading patterns and perform an extreme makeover and weave it many ways from twill, lace, and overshot to swivel, corduroy, deflected weft, and double-faced. You will learn how to adapt a single threading to weave several different weaves, including concepts such as star versus rose fashion, weaving on opposites, and echo treadling. All of this can be done bye changing the treadling sequence and weft yarn. Please note this is not a round-robin workshop.

Pre-warped 4- or more shaft looms are required for this class. Yarn Barn will have a limited number of looms available to rent and these will be threaded in the overshot pattern using 5/2 Perle cotton. If you plan to take both classes, you must sign up for loom rentals for each class.

If you are planning to enroll in both workshops and bring your own pre-threaded 4- or more shaft loom, it needs to be threaded in the overshot pattern.

No refunds/credits for cancellations after March 27 unless we can find a replacement for you.

BLOCK PARTY: Designing with the Building Blocks of Weaving

The foundations of many weaving designs come from blocks. If you are bewildered by the terms "block design" and "profile drafts", then in this workshop you will gain practical understanding of how they are the fundamental building blocks of many weave structures and learn how to manipulate them into new designs with unlimited possibilities. Block designs include overshot, summer-and-winter, crackle, and lace and by understanding these structures, you will learn how to design, set-up, and weave fabric. You will learn how to maximize the number of shafts on the loom, reinterpret a draft on fewer or greater shafts, and how to develop the tie-up, treadling sequence, and versatility of a single threading. If you are planning to enroll in both workshops and bring your own pre-threaded loom, it needs to be threaded in the overshot pattern.
