Wool Weaving Yarn Wool has been a mainstay of textile production for thousands of years. It is warm, of course, but also very versatile. The characteristics of the particular fiber and the way it is spun can make it fluffy or sleek, heavy or light, springy or less elastic. In general, it has good body and is resilient, returning to shape after stretching. Finishing after weaving can change the look of the fabric, from a light wash that relaxes the fibers, brushing that raises a nap, or even felting, which can completely obsure the fabric's structure. Most wools need to be hand washed, but they don't soil easily so don't need to be washed frequently. When well cared for, a wool fabric can give excellent service for decades. |
