Detailed Description

The Mass Street Pullover is the second project designed by Cheryl Murray to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. The Yarn Barn has been on Massachusetts Street for all of those 50 years and the Mass Street Pullover commemorates this special location. "Mass Street" is the center for downtown shopping, dining, and people watching. The dynamic zig-zag pattern was inspired by an aerial view of the street, with its saw-tooth parking. This is an oversized, boxy sweater with deeply dropped shoulders. The sleeves are worked in a very springy rib and are clingy without being tight. The body is knit in the round up to the armholes, following a chart for the knit/purl patterning. The shoulders are joined using a 3-needle bind-off. Stitches are picked up at the armholes and worked in the round to make the sleeves. The collar is worked in the round from picked-up stitches. Cheryl designed this for a loose fit, estimating 11-16" of ease. The finished chest measurements are 44.5 (48.75, 51, 53.5, 57.75, 62.24)". The sweater can be hand washed and dried flat.

The Mass Street Pullover is shown in Berroco's Ultra Alpaca. This is a worsted weight blend of 50% superfine alpaca and 50% Peruvian wool. It is a combination that gives drape and warmth from the alpaca and resilience from the wool. In this project, it is knit at 4.5 stitches per inch in stockinette.
