Detailed Description

Monk's belt can create a terrific rhythm. In this runner, it creates the structure and then the variegated pattern weft improvises the color on top. The result is a striking table topper that can coordinate with a whole range of colors and styles of rooms and dishware. In addition, monk's belt is a great "gateway" to overshot and lets you practice handling two shuttles but in a simple treadling sequence. This runner was designed and woven by Audrey Lintner, who chose 100% wool Nature Spun Fingering for the warp and tabby weft with Sesame, a wool, acrylic, cotton, and nylon blend, as the pattern weft. Both come in a range of colors for combinations that can run from austere and neutral to bright and dynamic. The finished runner measures approximately 17" x 48". It can be hand washed and dried flat.

You will need:

  • 20" weaving width
  • 4 harnesses
  • 10 or 15 dent reed
  • 294 heddles
  • 2 boat shuttles and bobbins

The runner is woven using Sesame color 7430 Pickled Ginger and Nature Spun Fingering color 730 Natural. If you like this combination, simply order the kit above. If you would like to choose your own colors, please see our Sesame and Nature Spun Fingering pages to view the options.
