This project is a study in varying texture and color. It is largely plain weave, but with a textured accent and 4 harness lace inset for interest. We started with a striped warp of Organic Cottolin sett at 20 epi, accented with the textured cotton/linen Irish Lace. For the placemats, we mimicked the warp sequence in the weft, which created a grid of color and texture with inset lace motifs in some of the blocks. For the napkins, we used a central block of a single color weft and created long bands of lace. Two napkins are primarily in one color, two in the other. All are finished with a hemmed edge. The styles and colors coordinate beautifully and give some variety to your table (and your weaving experience.)
- makes 4 placemats, 19" x 14" and 4 napkins, 14" x 14"
- 4-harness structure
- 17" weaving width sett at 20 epi
- designed for 8/2 cottolin
- challenge--finer yarn but fairly easy to weave
We have chosen Organic Cottolin colors #1934 Nile Green and #0112 Slate to go with the natural colored Irish Lace.
