Detailed Description

Light as air and very supple! This scarf, woven in a 100% alpaca yarn called Titicaca, provides warmth with very little weight. The warp is sett at 24 epi and striped in six colors. The weft is a single color beaten at 18 ppi. The dynamic zig-zag patterning comes from the twill variation in the threading and the easy-to-remember treadling sequence. The final dimensions depend on how much warp waste your loom has, but our scarf is 8" x 81" plus fringe. It can be hand washed and air dried.

Titicaca is a great introduction to weaving with fine yarns because it is surprisingly strong. If you have hestitated to try fine yarns because you have struggled with broken warp ends, try this project. It is good practice for tensioning your warp and in getting a light beat.

You will need:

  • 1 skein each of 6 colors of Titicaca
  • 8.25" weaving width
  • 4 harnesses
  • 12-dent reed
  • 195 heddles
  • boat shuttles and bobbin

Our scarf was woven using Titicaca in colors Havana, Hunter, Camelia, Clementine, Dragonfly, and Lupine.
