Set the table for your outdoor (or indoor!) party with a set of colorful doubleweave placemats and matching plain weave napkins. The placemats are woven with a solid-color layer and a multicolored layer. Exchange the layers and you get fun blocks of contrasting color. It sounds complicated but the treadling sequence is easy and you use only one color of weft. The only tricky aspect is the tie-up. If you have just six treadles, you will need to change the tie-up from time to time as you weave. If you have ten treadles, you can set it up and weave without interruption. The placemats are reversible, so you can flip some or all for a different look. The coordinating napkins have a multicolor warp and are woven with a single color of weft in easy plain weave. The yarn for this project is 8/4 Carpet Warp, made of 100% unmercerized cotton. The kit makes six hemmed placemats with finished dimensions of 17.5" x 11.5" and six hemmed napkins measuring 15.5" square. They are machine washable and dryable.
