The allover cable pattern used in Treefolds is an abstracted verson of the traditional Tree of Life design. The diagonal lines that make up each motif circle the hat and then converge toward the top with a series of double decreases. The pattern includes instructions for a single-layer ribbed brim or a double-layer version that is folded up. It is knit in the round from the bottom up and instructions are included for optional tubular cast on. The cabling is worked following a large chart. Finished measurements are approximately 21.25" in circumference and 8.75" from folded brim edge to crown. Treefolds can be hand washed and dried flat. Brooklyn Tweed has assigned this Jared Flood design a skill level rating of 3 out of 5 (intermediate).
Brooklyn Tweed created Peerie for designs just such as this one. Peerie is a worsted-spun 4-ply yarn so it is smooth and strong, with excellent stitch definition. It has a subtle sheen that enhances the 3-dimensionality of textured stitches by creating areas of light and shadow. Peerie is made from US-sourced Merino wool and is spun and dyed in the US. In Treefolds, Peerie is knit at 10.75 stitches per inch in the tree pattern.
