With a minimalist design like Osier, the beauty is in the details: the subtle overall textured stitch, the chunky ribbing that is everywhere except the lower edge, the careful shaping of the neck, and the practical but unobtrusive pockets. The body is knit flat from the bottom to the armholes, and then the fronts and back are completed separately. The sleeves are worked from picked-up stitches at the armhole and knit downward. Stitches are picked up and worked in rib for the neckband, then finished with a fine edging of stockinette.
Osier was designed to fit loosely, worn with 10 or more inches of ease. The finished chest measurements are 42 (46, 50, 54, 58, 63)" with lengths of 23.5 (24, 25, 26, 27.5, 28.5)". The pattern includes instructions for a cropped version with lengths from 19" to 23.75". If you would like the shorter version, tell us in the box above and we'll adjust the yarn quantities and price. The sweater can be hand washed and dried flat. Brooklyn tweed rates this Cheryl Toy design as skill level 2 of 5 (adventurous beginner).
Osier was designed using Brooklyn Tweed's Shelter, a worsted-weight wool and the first yarn designed by Brooklyn Tweed. It is a a woolen-spun yarn so it is lofty, for a lightweight but warm sweater. Wet blocking gives it a soft hand and slight fuzzy halo. Shelter is a worsted weight yarn and is knit at 5 stitches per inch in pattern in this design.
