To commemorate Yarn Barn's 50 years in the fiber business, Cheryl Murray has created this knitted wrap that is a tip of the hat to both knitters and weavers. The overall shape is an asymmetrical triangle that is worked from one point, increasing stitches as you go. It begins and ends with easy garter stitch but the focal point is a band of Woven Lace. This textured stitch evokes large-scale woven fabric and is worked from a chart. A chunky picot bind-off finishes the edge. The wingspan is approximately 88" and the lower edge is 45" long after blocking.
Cheryl designed the Weaver's Wrap using Brooklyn Tweed's Shelter, a US-produced wool and the first yarn designed by Brooklyn Tweed. It is a woolen-spun yarn so it is lofty, for a lightweight but warm fabric. Wet blocking gives it a soft hand and slight fuzzy halo but does not obscure the pattern stitches. Shelter is a worsted weight yarn and is knit at 3.25 stitches per inch in garter stitch for this design.
The kit includes the pattern and the yarn. For this project you will also need:
- 40" circular needle in US size 10 (OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE)
- (optional) shorter circular needle in US size 10 to begin
- stitch markers
- tapestry needle
The Weaver's Wrap is shown in Shelter main color 32 Snowbound with accents of 23 Stormcloud and 83 Amaranth. If you would like your wrap to be in this color combination, simply order the kit above.
