Here is an example of how tie-up affects the fabric. We wove two scarves using the same yarn, same 8-harness threading, and same treadling. The tie-up is the only difference. But while one is crisp and grid-like, the other has off-set motifs and diagonal lines. You can do one of each or both the same! You'll use 5/2 Rayon sett at 18 epi for the warp and Melilla Fingering, a silk/wool/nylon blend, as the weft. The kit makes two scarves with finished dimensions of 7.5" x 66" plus fringe. It can be hand washed and air dried, with a brief tumble in the dryer to fluff the fabric.
You will need:
- 8" weaving width
- 8 harnesses
- 12-dent reed
- 141 heddles
- boat shuttle and bobbins
We used 5/2 Rayon in Black for the warp and Melilla Fingering color 5 Nebula as the weft.
