The Technique of Split-shed Weaving
by Deborah Silver
We've become used to seeing pictorial weavings that have been done on multi-shaft or even jacquard looms. But you don't need a complex loom to create amazing images--you can do it on just four harnesses! Deborah shows how to employ a set of threads that hover mid-shed to create areas of different structures or of two faces of the same structure. Unlike inlay or tapestry, each weft pick makes a complete path from selvedge to selvedge, sometimes traveling above the middle set of threads and sometimes dropping below them, changing the way the fabric looks in each area.
