Synthe is the perfect layering piece. It looks terrific over short sleeves, long sleeves, or no sleeves. Pull it on over a long tunic or leggings. Or wear it as the base layer under an oversized cardigan. It is knit in the round in a 6-row stitch pattern of knit rows and a purl row. The work starts at the top, with short rows shaping the back of the neck and the yoke. Stitches are reserved for the sleeves while the body is finished and then the sleeves are worked downward. This kit is for the short-sleeved version shown but the pattern includes instructions for 3/4-lengths sleeves. You'll need to order 1 (1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3) additional skeins if you want to make the longer sleeves. The finished chest measurements are 36.5 (40.25, 44.5, 48.75, 52.5, 57, 61.75, 65.75, 70)" with lengths of 20.75 (21, 22, 22.75, 24, 24.75, 26, 27.75, 28.25)". The sweater can be hand washed and dried flat. Brooklyn tweed rates this Kjerstin Rossi design as skill level 2 of 5 (adventurous beginner).
Synthe was designed using Brooklyn Tweed's Shelter, a worsted-weight wool and the first yarn designed by Brooklyn Tweed. It is a woolen-spun yarn so it is lofty, for a lightweight but warm sweater. Wet blocking gives it a soft hand and slight fuzzy halo. Shelter is a worsted weight yarn and is knit at 4 stitches per inch in the pattern stitch for this design.
The kit includes the pattern as a download from Ravelry and the yarn. For this project you will also need:
- 32" circular needle in US size 9 (OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE)
If you adjusted the needle size above to get gauge, adjust the needle sizes below accordingly
- 16" circular needle in US size 9
- double point needles in US size 9
- stitch markers, including unique one for beginning of round
- stitch holders or waste yarn for reserving stitches
- T-pins for blocking
- tapestry needle
