Ponchos make great layering pieces that can be worn in place of a jacket outdoors or instead of a cardigan or shawl indoors. This one, designed by Andrea Mowry, has a hood to keep your head and neck warm, a fun twisted stitch texture on the upper body, and curved shirttail hem. It is worked in two pieces from the bottom up, using short rows to shape the shirttail hem. Stitches are picked up and worked for the hem edgings and once the shoulders are joined, stitches are picked up at the neck for the hood. Its shaping is worked with short rows and the top is joined using a 3-needle bind-off. The poncho is sized for small, medium, and large. Measured from edge to edge at the widest point, the measurements are 28 (33, 38)" with lengths from neck to lower hem of 25 (29.5, 33.25)". It can be hand washed and dried flat.
Sheltered uses Brooklyn Tweed's Shelter, a worsted-weight wool and the first yarn designed by Brooklyn Tweed. It is a a woolen-spun yarn with a soft hand and slight fuzzy halo after wet blocking. It makes a warm, cozy shawl that is lightweight for its size.
