Seamark has the traditional gansey sweater in its DNA but it has some stylish twists for a more modern look. The sleeves are set-in, for a sleek fit in the armholes. The fit in the body is boxy, without drawing in at the lower ribbing. And speaking of the ribbing--it is longer in the back, with vents at the sides. The front, back, and sleeves are worked separately from the bottom up. The cables are worked following large charts and are set against a stockinette background. Once the pieces are assembled, stitches are picked up and worked for the neck ribbing and rolled edge. Seamark is intended to be worn with 5-7" of ease. Finished chest measurements are 35.25 (39.25, 44, 48, 52, 56.75, 60.75)" with finished lengths at the back of 23.25 (24.25, 24.75, 25.75, 26.25, 27.25, 27.75)". The sweater can be hand washed and dried flat. Brooklyn Tweed has assigned this Rachel Brockman design a skill level rating of 3 out of 5 (intermediate).
Seamark uses Arbor, made by Brooklyn Tweed. This is a DK weight yarn that is made using three worsted-spun plies firmly twisted together, creating a smooth yarn with a knack for showing off stitch patterns like the ones in this sweater! The gauge for this project is 5 stitches per inch in stockinette.
The kit includes the pattern and yarn. For this project you will also need:
- single point or 32" circular needles in US size 7 (OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE)
