Bold diagonal lines and colors that sizzle--what's not to love? Runnel is a dynamic scarf that uses alternating rows of color to build intersecting blocks of pinstripes. The knitting begins at the solid-colored center section with a provisional cast-on. Work progresses downward in garter stitch, changing color pairings to create broad bands of stripes. Stitches are picked up along the knitted edge for the final block that runs in the opposite direction. Once that is complete, the provisional stitches are removed and the second half of the scarf is knit to match. An i-cord edging is worked around the perimeter. The finished dimesions are 9" x 80". The scarf can be hand washed and dried flat. Brooklyn Tweed has assigned this Elise Young design a skill level rating of 3 out of 5 (intermediate).
Runnel uses Brooklyn Tweed's fingering weight wool called Loft. Loft is a woolen-spun yarn that has a soft, fuzzy texture after wet blocking and is perfect for a warm scarf that doesn't have a lot of bulk. It is knit in this project at 6 stitches per inch in garter stitch, after blocking.
The kit includes the pattern and yarn. For this project you will also need:
