DOUBLE WEAVE ON THE RIGID HEDDLE LOOM

July 23-24 Wednesday-Thursday 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. 2 days

Don’t feel constrained by the size of your rigid heddle loom. In this class you will learn to use two heddles to create double the width fabric on your rigid heddle loom. Handy for creating throws and shawls! You can bring any size rigid heddle loom to class, but it must be equipped for 2-heddle weaving. You will use two 7.5-or 8-dent heddles. Materials not included. By Bea Bonanno.

Please purchase your class supplies before the first day of class. You can order it online. Just be sure to include a message that we should hold the yarn at the store to pick up during class.

    Class supply list:

  • Any size rigid heddle loom that is fully assembled and in good working condition. It must come equipped with or be able to accommodate a second heddle block. Schacht Cricket looms do not support 2-heddle weaving and cannot be used in this class.
  • Two 7.5-dent or 8-dent heddles
  • Warping Peg and Clamp
  • Sport weight yarn in 2 different colors. Look for yarns that are very smooth with little to no loft. This will make it easier to get a good shed. You can make a shawl approximately 20 x 70 or a throw approximately 40 x 70. The shawl will take approximately 750 yards and the throw takes approximately 1500 yards.
  • We recommend yarns like Ultra Pima for a cotton version or Wooldreamers Cautiva for a wool version.
  • Two pick-up sticks that are long enough for the full width of your loom. Our teacher recommends that you use a pick-up stick that is at least 1" wide or a sword as they will give you the deepest shed.
  • 1-2 flat or stick shuttles that are as long as your intended warp width or boat shuttle and bobbin
  • GOOD SCISSORS
  • tape measure
  • notebook and pen
