This is an unusual cable that looks more like ruching than a traditional cable. The overall construction of this sweater is different, too, since it is knitted from cuff-to-cuff, with the rows of the knitted fabric running vertically in the finished sweater. The majority of the sweater is garter stitch with the cable worked from written instructions. The work starts at one cuff then stitches are cast on to widen the piece for the body and shaping is provided using short rows. The front and back are worked one at a time, allowing the neck opening to form, then the stitches join again to complete the second sleeve. Stitches are picked up at the neck and worked in reverse stockinette for the neckband. The sweater is designed to be worn with 0-2.5" of ease for a fitted look. Finished chest measurements are 34.5 (38, 42.5, 46.5, 50.5)" with finished lengths of 18.5 (19.5, 20, 21, 20.5)". Designed by Lisa Richardson and rated by Rowan as skill level experienced.
Popham is knit using Rowan's Alpaca Classic. This is an unusual yarn, made by stuffing a fine cotton mesh tube with alpaca fibers. The result is a fluffy, fuzzy yarn with a lot of warmth. It is a sport weight yarn and is knit in this project at 5.5 stitches per inch in garter stitch.
