Detailed Description

Weave hand-dyed La Jolla and you get an effect like something between pointilism and impressionism, with subtle color changes and gradations. Here, we've added structure with stripes in the warp and weft of a solid color of Nature Spun Fingering. These lightweight wools make a great team, creating a lightweight but warm fabric. The warp is sett at 12 epi and is woven in easy plain weave. Ours was made on a rigid heddle loom but it could be woven on a loom with harnesses as well, although the length would be shorter. The kit makes one scarf with finished dimensions of 13.5" x 66.5" (if woven on a rigid heddle loom) plus fringe. It can be hand washed and air dried.

You will need:

  • La Jolla: 1 skein
  • Nature Spun Fingering: 1 skein each of 3 colors
  • 15" weaving width
  • rigid heddle loom or loom with 2 harnesses
  • 12 dent rigid heddle or reed
  • 176 heddles if using a loom with harnesses
  • flat shuttle or boat shuttle and bobbin

Our scarf was woven in colorway Finch, using La Jolla Heart of Gold with Nature Spun Fingering colors 720 Ash, 157 Boysenberry, and 308 Sunburst Gold.
