This is the sweater you will wear on a winter hike, while chopping wood, or to walk the dogs. The simplicity of the sweater lets the focus fall on the cable that looks like it is lacing the front of the sweater closed. The body and sleeves are worked in garter stitch, without ribbing or other edging, all the way up to the funnel neck. The 24-stitch cable is worked on the front only and follows written instructions. The sweater is designed to be worn with 4-6" of ease for a relaxed, casual look. Finished chest measurements are 38 (42.5, 46, 50.5, 54)" with finished lengths of 28.25 (29, 30, 30.5, 31.5)". Designed by Lisa Richardson and rated by Rowan as skill level experienced.
Pennybridge is knit using Rowan's Alpaca Classic. This is an unusual yarn, made by stuffing a fine cotton mesh tube with alpaca fibers. The result is a fluffy, fuzzy yarn with a lot of warmth. It is a sport weight yarn and is knit in this project at 5.5 stitches per inch in garter stitch.
The kit includes the pattern (and full issue of Rowan Magazine 64) and yarn for the sweater. For this project you will also need:
- single point needles in US size 5 OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
- cable needle
- tapestry needle
