It's all about the color. It is what designer Kaffe Fassett is known for and here he does the hard work of selecting 13 colors that are harmonious but never dull. Each square of color has a feathered edge, making it look just like a brush stroke on a turquoise canvas. The blanket is knit using the intarsia method for the colorwork. The border of moss stitch is worked as you go, so there is no picking up of stitches at the end. The color placement is shown on a large, clear chart.
The Paint Daubs Blanket uses Rowan's Felted Tweed, which is a blend of 50% Merino wool, 25% alpaca, and 25% viscose. The yarn is slightly pre-felted, for a subtle hazy surface that is spiked with contrast flecks.
The finished wrap measures 57" x 60.5". It can be machine washed and dried flat. Rowan has assigned this project a skill level of intermediate.
