Detailed Description

Monk's Belt is a simple form of overshot, with a tabby weft but only two pattern blocks. We used it as the basis of this blanket design, but spiced it up with two pattern weft colors. Harrisville Shetland, a 100% wool sett at 15 epi, is the warp and tabby weft. Harrisville Highland, a heavier weight wool, is used for the two colors of pattern weft. Carrying the weft up the side means that you are juggling three shuttles but don't have to weave tails in after every color change. A floating selvedge on each side keeps the edges neat.
  • makes 1 blanket, 32" x 58.5"
  • 4-harness monk's belt
  • 36" weaving width sett at 15 epi
  • designed for Shetland and Highland wool
  • challenge--uses two different weights of weft yarn

We have our sample shown in Shetland color Jade for the warp and tabby weft and Highland colors Cypress and Teak for the pattern weft.
