Edited by Virginia I. Harvey. This is a reprint of the Shuttle Craft Guild Monograph No. 35, originally published in 1985. The contents are taken from a manuscript by Dr. William Bateman, a chemist who focused on weave structures in his retirement. These weaves are formed from a variety of units that all make plain weave but make plain weave by raising different harnesses. By threading differeing units in a single fabric, plain weave is combined with floats to create textured elements. The book uses excepts from Dr. Bateman's manuscript plus black and white photos of sample fabrics. The text is demanding but can lead a patient weaver to interesting results.
