Leno (pronounced "LEE-no") is a hand-manipulated lace that is often used as a border. In our scarf, we are building up blocks of leno within a plain weave background to make a geometric design. We wove this scarf on a floor loom but leno is a nice technique to add some flair to a rigid heddle project, too. This project is for intermediate leno weavers, so the instructions assume you are already familiar with this technique. If you don't have a foundation in leno, the magazine Weaver's Craft issue 12 is a good resource for learning the basics of the leno technique. We chose Cotton Fine for this project because it has a smooth surface to show off the lace. It is a blend of 80% Pima cotton and 20% Merino wool, making it the cool scarf for a spring day with added resilience thanks to the wool.
