Fair Isle knitting takes on a different look in the Jade Scarf. Two colorways of Rowan's Felted Tweed Colour, a yarn that has slow color gradation, are knitted in a traditional Fair Isle pattern. The contrast is low and the patterning is subtle and elegant. The colorwork is done following a 20-stitch, 22-round chart. The scarf is knit in the round as a tube, making it doubly warm and cozy. Finished measurements are 9.5" x 85". Rowan gives this Lisa Richardson design a 3 of 4 rating for difficulty.
Felted Tweed Colour is our old friend, Felted Tweed, but with intriguing color variation. The color slowly changes along the length of the yarn, but only within a narrow range of color. No dramatic swings from green to purple here! It has the same great hand as original Felted Tweed, made of 50% Merino wool, 25% alpaca, and 25% viscose. It is a DK weight yarn that knits at 6.25 stitches per inch in stranded stockinette stitch in this project. It can be machine washed and dried flat.
The kit includes the yarn and pattern. For this project you will also need:
