FRINGE AND BEYOND-- Finishing Techniques for Woven Fabric

Dec. 2 (Fri.) 10 a.m.-4 p.m. 1 day

Looking for an alternative to fringe?  Take this class to learn twisting, braiding, adding beads, making decorative knots, adding knit or crochet edges to your woven fabric.  You will need to bring a pre-warped rigid heddle loom or harness loom to class.  We have a limited number of threaded looms to rent.  By Deborah Jarchow.

SUPPLY LIST:

  • 8" or wider rigid heddle loom or harness loom fully assembled and in good working condition
  • 7.5-dent or 8-dent heddle or reed for your loom
  • Warp yarn: approximately 54-60 yards of worsted weight yarn.  We recommend either Nature Spun Worsted or Pima 100.
  • Weft yarn: approximately 50-75 yards of worsted weight yarn.  We recommend either Nature Spun Worsted or Pima 100.
  • sewing needle

  • crochet hook size D or E
  • US 5 or US 6 knitting needle
  • straight pins
  • 25-30 beads to fit weft yarn
  • 30 yards waste yarn (worsted weight acrylic works well)
  • post it notes
  • boat shuttle and bobbin
  • scissors

WARPING INSTRUCTIONS:

Warp your loom 4" wide and 60" long with your chosen worsted weight yarn.  For rigid heddle loom, thread 1 slot, 1 hole on a 7.5- or 8 dent heddle.  For harness loom, measure a 1.75 yard warp of 32 ends.  Thread your loom in plain weave.  Tie on back beam and tension.

The Yarn Barn follows Douglas County COVID recommendations.  At this time, masks are not required.  If the situation changes, our policy will change to reflect County recommendations.

PARKING: The New Hampshire Parking Garage is located at 927 New Hampshire Street.  Top level parking is free.  Level 2 parking is $2.00 to park for the whole day.  Street level and basement level parking is 2-hour free parking.  Pay stations are located at each stairwell on the street level.  Sunday parking is free downtown.
