Flame Thrower is aptly named--this bold design draws attention! It is knit using Melilla Fingering, a yarn dyed to create stripes as it is knit. No need to juggle various colors of yarn--Melilla Fingering handles the colors for you! The shawl is knit from the center neck downward, adding stitches as you go. The lace motifs knit in the body are worked following written instructions. The lace at the lower edge can be worked from either written or charted directions. Finished measurements are approximately 68" x 25". Berroco has given this Laurie Beardsley design a difficulty rating of intermediate.
Melilla Fingering has fantastic color combinations. It is a silk/wool/nylon blend, spun into a thick-and-thin single ply. This gives the yarn a distinctive look but means that extra care is required to prevent the yarn from breaking. Unwind the ball from the outside and don't yank it. It is a fingering weight yarn but is knit in this project somewhat loosely at 5.5 stitches per inch in stockinette.
The kit includes the pattern and the yarn. For this project you will also need:
- single point or circular needles in US size 4 OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
- tapestry needle
