Dumfries is different from your typical slip-on cardigan. It has fringe on the bottom! It also has a loose, oversized fit that looks great on everyone, a zigzag-y color pattern, and a cabled front edging. With short sleeves, you can layer it over long sleeves in the winter or just a camisole in the spring or fall. The lower sleeves and lower body are knit first and then joined at the yoke with raglan shaping. The cabled edging is worked as you go, so the only finishing is grafting the underarm seams and joining the front bands at the back of the neck. Finished chest measurements are 47.25 (50.5, 55.5, 58.75, 63)" with finished lengths of 23.5 (24.5, 25.25, 26, 26.75)". Designed by Emma Wright and rated by Rowan as skill level advanced: using advanced stitch, shaping, and garment construction techniques.
Dumfries is knit using Rowan's Alpaca Classic. This is a sport-weight yarn with an unusual construction. A cotton mesh is filled with alpaca fiber, creating a lightweight yarn with a lot of warmth. It is knit in this project at 7.5 stitches per inch in the pattern and 5.75 stitches per inch in stockinette.
The kit includes the pattern (and full issue of Rowan Magazine 68) and yarn for the sweater. For this project you will also need:
