Culzean has a casual but polished vibe. It looks like a pullover but--surprise!--there are no side seams, so it is really a tabard. The matching belt holds it in place with the proper amount of slouch. The body is knit in one piece. The center panel is knit from front lower edge to back lower edge, with shaping for the neck hole. Once that is complete, stitches are picked up and worked along each side downward, with decreases on each side to shape the sleeves. The majority of the fabric uses an 8-row pattern repeat for a subtle texture and moss stitch forms an edging for the hem and sleeves. Stitches are picked up and worked in the round in rib for the collar. The belt is knit in the round in moss and stockinette stitch. Finished chest measurements are 54.75 (58.25, 62.5, 66, 70.5)" with finished lengths of 26.75 (27.75, 28.25, 29.25, 30)". Designed by Lisa Richardson, this project is rated by Rowan as requiring simple techniques: using straightforward knitting and shaping.
Culzean was designed for the light and lofty warmth of Rowan's Alpaca Classic. It is is a sport-weight yarn with an unusual construction. A cotton mesh is filled with alpaca fiber, creating a lightweight yarn with a lot of warmth. It is knit in this project at 5.75 stitches per inch in stockinette.
