Detailed Description

The weaving class listed below is designed for those who have threaded a rigid heddle loom or a 4-harness loom, can follow a draft and weave independently.

CLASPED WEAVE ON THE RIGID HEDDLE LOOM

MAY 16-17 (Sat.-Sun.) 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. 2 days

Create striking color shifts and painterly effects in your fabric by interlocking yarns while threading and weaving on your rigid heddle loom. You will learn how to plan a project with this technique and design a unique pattern to weave a scarf, shawl, or runner in class. We recommend you use Coast, a cotton/wool blend yarn. You will need to bring your own rigid heddle loom that has a minimum width of 10" to class. You will also need a 10-dent heddle. Materials not included. By Bea Bonanno.

Please purchase your class supplies before the first day of class. You can order it online. Just be sure to include a message that we should hold the yarn at the store to pick up during class.

    Class supply list:

  • Fully assembled and in good working condition rigid heddle loom that is 10" or wider
  • 10-dent heddle
  • Warping peg and clamp
  • Heavy duty brown craft paper or warping sticks
  • Warp yarn: Coast skein. Coast is a bit sticky and delicate and will need a gentle touch but the resulting fabric is beautiful and well worth the extra care. You can also choose a similar yarn gauge like 5/2 Perle Cotton, Big Dipper 5/2 Tencel, 8/4 Cotton, or Nature Spun Fingering. Choose 2 colors: 100 grams for Color A and 50 grams for Color B.
  • 2 flat shuttles that are close in length or a little shorter than the width of your loom.
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Scissors
  • PARKING: The parking garage is located at 927 New Hampshire Street. Top level parking is free. Level 2 parking is $2.00 to park 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Street level and basement level parking is limited to 2 hours. Pay stations are located at each stairwell on the street level. Sunday parking is free downtown.
