Cheviot has its origins in Britain but has had considerable development in the US since its introduction in 1838. The fiber has an unusual 3-dimensional crimp with a staple length of 4-5". The diameter is generally 27-33 microns. Cheviot yarn is bouncy and resilient.
Cheviot makes a durable knitted or woven fabric with good body. For most people, its wool is not soft enough to be worn against the skin but is quite comfortable as a top layer. It is not a good choice for felting.
This wool can be dyed using Washfast dyes.
