A dolman sweater has a certain slouchy chic quality. Retro? Maybe. Elegant? Definitely. The construction of this sweater is equally refined, working from the top down in stockinette stitch. The upper shoulders are worked flat and then joined for the body to be worked in the round, for a sleek, seamless finish. The sleeves (or deep cuffs) are worked in 1x1 twisted rib. Stitches are picked up at the neck to make the collar, which is worked in stockinette and then turned under and sewn down. Chabot can be hand washed and dried flat. Brooklyn Tweed has assigned this Alma Bali design a skill level rating of 3 out of 5 (intermediate).
The shaping of this sweater makes it a challenge to describe the size. Brooklyn Tweed recommends choosing your size based on the shoulder-to-elbow width of the garment. (The ribbed sleeve or cuff begins at the elbow.) These measurements are 12.5 (13.5, 14.5, 15.5, 16.5, 17.5, 18.5, 19.25, 20.5)". The corresponding hem measurements are 31.75 (35.75, 39, 40, 43.25, 47.75, 51, 55, 59)".
Brooklyn Tweed created Peerie for designs that benefit from good drape and sharp stitch definition. Peerie is a worsted-spun 4-ply yarn so it is smooth and strong, with a subtle sheen. The entire manufacturing process of this yarn, from raising the sheep to spinning and dyeing, all happens within the US. Peerie is a fingering weight yarn and, in Chabot, it is knit at 6.25 stitches per inch in stockinette, after blocking.
