With a classic raglan shape like this, it is the textured stitch that steals the show. In the case of Buckler, it is a 16-row knit-purl pattern that includes knitting into the stitch below. This creates an all-over pattern that contrasts with the chunky ribbing at the lower edge, cuffs, and collar. The front, back, and sleeves are knit flat and then joined. Stitches are picked up at the neck for the collar, worked flat, and then the collar is seamed. The finished chest measurements are 35.75 (39.75, 43.75, 47.75, 51.5, 55.5)" with lengths of 23.5 (24.5, 25.25, 26.25, 26.75, 27.5)". The sweater can be hand washed and dried flat. Rowan gives this Martin Storey design 3 out of 4 for level of difficulty (for the more experienced knitter, using more advanced shaping or stitch techniques.)
Moordale is one of Rowan's yarns made entirely of British-raised fiber. It combines 70% wool and 30% alpaca for a yarn that is lightweight and warm. It shows off textured stitches, like this knit/purl patterning, beautifully. Moordale is a sport weight yarn that is knit at 4 stitches per inch in the textured stitch for this sweater.
