Detailed Description

Spring and summer temperatures can fluctuate from morning to afternoon or from indoors to outdoors. Keep a little poncho like Alee on hand to cover your shoulders when you need it. It is made in a cool, breathable cotton blend and has a terrific earthy texture. The work is done from the top down. The lace cowl neck is worked as a strip following written instructions and then joined into a circle. Stitches are picked up along one edge and then worked in stockinette downward, increasing stitches as you go. A simple garter stitch edging finishes the bottom. Alee has finished neck circumferences of 24 (25, 26)" and lower edge circumferences of 46.5 (49.5, 52.5)". Finished lengths are 15.5 (16, 16.5)". Berroco has given this Donna Yacino design a difficulty rating of intermediate.

Alee uses Berroco's thick-and-thin spring and summer yarn called Quinoa. It is 91% cotton and 9% nylon, with irregular slubs that create a casual, pebbly texture. It is a DK weight yarn and is knit at 5.5 stitches per inch in stockinette in this project. Quinoa can be machine washed on gentle and dried flat.

For this project you will also need:

  • Berroco Quinoa: 3 (4, 4) skeins
  • 24" circular needle in US size 6 OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
  • 3 stitch markers, with 1 a different color to indicate beginning of round
  • tapestry needle

The poncho is shown in Quinoa color 1044 Millet.
