Berenice has a boxy, casual shape but a pretty lace and cable design that gives it a bit of polish. The back, front, and drop-shoulder sleeves are worked flat from the bottom up, starting with 2x2 ribbing. The cable and lace pattern is worked on both the front and back of the sweater, following a chart. Once the shoulder seams have been sewn, stitches are picked up at the neck opening and worked in ribbing for the neckband. The sweater is designed to be roomy, worn with 10-12" of ease. Finished chest measurements are 42.5 (46.5, 50.5, 54.5, 58.5, 62.5)" with finshed lengths of 23.25 (23.75, 24.75, 25.5, 26, 26.5)". The sweater can be hand washed and dried flat. Brooklyn Tweed has assigned this Julie Hoover design a skill level rating of 3 out of 5 (intermediate).
Berenice uses Loft, Brooklyn Tweed's fingering weight yarn spun from US-produced Columbia-Targhee wool. It is a woolen-spun yarn with a soft hand and slight fuzzy halo after wet blocking. Loft knits up into fabrics that are lightweight and very warm. For this sweater, it is knit at 6 stitchers per inch in stockinette.
