Side-to-side? Yes, please! Especially when the side-to-side includes bars of garter stitch that create an overall grid for the sweater surface. Colburn's body is knit armhole-to-armhole, with subtle shaping at the shoulders and divided stitches to make the neck opening. A garter stitch band is worked at the neck as you go. Then stitches are picked up and worked down to the cuffs for the sleeves. Colburn is designed to be slightly oversized, worn with 4-6" of ease. Finished chest measurements are 36 (40, 44, 48, 52, 56)" with finished back lengths of 23 (22.25, 24.25, 25.5, 26.5, 26.75)". The sweater can be hand washed and dried flat. Brooklyn Tweed has assigned this Gudrun Johnston design a skill level rating of 3 out of 5.
Colburn uses Brooklyn Tweed's fingering weight wool called Loft. Loft is a woolen-spun wool that has a soft, fuzzy texture after wet blocking and makes a warm sweater that is lightweight for its volume.
