Detailed Description

Diamonds and diagonals cover the surface of this fabric, creating a look reminiscent of an argyle sweater! It is a fancy point twill threaded on eight harnesses. Three colors are used in the warp, sett at 24 epi, and a single color is the weft. The final dimensions depend on how much warp waste your loom has. We wove our scarf on a table loom with minimal waste so it measures 9.5" x 84" plus fringe. Even if your loom has a yard of waste, you can expect a length of 70" or so. The scarf can be hand washed and air dried.

The scarf is woven using Titicaca, a 100% alpaca yarn from Holst Garn. "Laceweight alpaca" might sound fragile but Titicaca is a great introduction to weaving with fine yarns because it is surprisingly strong for its size. If you have hestitated to work with fine yarns because you have struggled with broken warp ends in the past, try Titicaca! With even warp tension, it is easy to weave.

You will need:

  • Titicaca: 1 skein each of 3 colors for the warp; 2 skeins of an additional color for the weft
  • 10.5" weaving width
  • 8 harnesses
  • 12-dent reed
  • 243 heddles
  • boat shuttle and bobbin

Our scarf was woven using Titicaca in warp colors Venetian, Burnt Orange, and Clementine, with Passion for the weft.
