NOTE: The weaving class listed below is designed for those who have threaded a rigid heddle loom, can follow a draft, and weave independently.

8-Harness Pick on the Rigid Heddle Loom

April 27-28 (Sat.-Sun.) 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. 2 days

Learn how to use pick up techniques on your rigid heddle loom to make more complicated weave sturctures like color-and-weave pinwheel.  You will use 2 highly contrasting colors of 3/2 perle cotton, a mercerized cotton to make a set of towels.  You will need to bring your own rigid heddle loom that is at least 14" wide.  By Katie Werner.

Supply List:

  • Please bring a fully assembled rigid heddle loom in good working condition.  It needs to be a minimum of 14" wide.  You will thread your loom before class begins.
  • 12- or 12.5- dent heddle
  • 3/2 perle cotton, 1 mini cone each in 2 contrasting colors
  • 1-2 shuttles (stick shuttles or boat shuttle and bobbins, your preference)
  • 16" or longer pick up stick that is at least 1" wide
  • tape measure
  • scissors

Threading instructions: Measure a 2.5-yard warp of 168 ends using the color sequence: 8 dark, 8 light, 10 times, end with 8 dark.  In a 12- or 12.5-dent heddle, sley one thread per slot and hole.  Tie and beam onto your loom using heavy warping paper.  You can tension at class.

PARKING: The parking garage is located at 927 New Hampshire Street.  Top level parking is free.  Level 2 parking is $2.00 to park for the whole day.  Street level and basement level parking is limited to 2-hours.  Pay stations are located at each stairwell on the street level.  Sunday parking is free downtown.
