This is the design you'll go to year after year, everytime a friend or family member has a baby. It is a classic unisex cardigan, stockinette with easy garter stitch edging and minimal shaping. The back, fronts, and two sleeves are knit flat and then joined. Stitches are picked up and worked in garter stitch for the button band. The pattern includes instructions for an alternate neckline and shorter sleeves, too. The finished chest measurements are 17.75 (20, 22, 23.75)" with lengths of 8.25 (9.75, 10.75, 11.75)". The sweater can be machine washed and dried. Sirdar rates this design as for intermediate skill level .

This sweater was knit using Sirdar's Snuggly Cotton. It is a DK weight 100% cotton yarn that can be machine washed and dried. It comes in great kids' colors--pastels, brights, and neutrals. It knits at 5.5 stitches per inch in stockinette for this project.

• single point needles in US size 6 (OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE)
