Detailed Description

Monk's belt can create a terrific rhythm. In this runner, it creates the structure and then the variegated pattern weft improvises the color on top. The result is a striking table topper that can coordinate with a whole range of colors and styles of rooms and dishware. In addition, monk's belt is a great "gateway" to overshot and lets you practice handling two shuttles but in a simple treadling sequence. This runner was designed by Audrey Lintner, who chose 100% wool Nature Spun Fingering for the warp and tabby weft with Sesame, a wool, acrylic, cotton, and nylon blend, as the pattern weft. Both come in a range of colors for combinations that can run from austere and neutral to bright and dynamic. The finished runner measures approximately 17" x 48". It can be hand washed and dried flat.

You will need:

  • 20" weaving width
  • 4 harnesses
  • 10 or 15 dent reed
  • 294 heddles
  • 2 boat shuttles and bobbins

The runner is woven using Sesame color 7430 Pickled Ginger and Nature Spun Fingering color 730 Natural.
