With these placemats, not only do you get pretty cotton table toppers, but you have the benefit of weaving something close to a sampler. While the design has a straightforward threading sequence, variety in the treadling and the color-and-weave effect gives you a patchwork of different 4-harness patterns. The yarn is Ad Astra 4/2 cotton sett at 15 epi, for an absorbent fabric with some heft. The kit makes four placemats, each 17.25" x 12.75". They can be machine washed and dried.

You will need:

• 1 cone each of 3 colors 4/2 Cotton
• small amount of 8/2 or 10/2 cotton for the hem
• 20" weaving width
• 4 harnesses
• 10- or 15-dent reed
• 2 boat shuttles and 4 bobbins
