Fray Check is a handy thing to have in your textile tool kit. It is a liquid plastic that can be applied to fabrics to prevent fraying and unweaving. We've used it in classes to preserve the edges as we cut samples apart. It is also great for tailoring handwoven fabric--use it on the cut edges before sewing. It can be washed or dry cleaned.
