For a traditional look and a single treadle, get the Ashford Traditional; It is big enough to treadle lightly but still fit in most cars. Like the other Ashford wheels, it is made from silver beech, a sturdy wood with a slightly reddish tone. The three legs are positioned for stability and the treadle is designed for heel and toe action to make treadling less tiring. The 22" wheel rides on ball bearings for smooth, easy motion. The Scotch tension is a nylon band controlled with a knob and spring. The double drive wheel includes the Scotch tension and can be converted between double and single drive in a matter of seconds.

There are several variations on the Traditional wheel. It is available in a single drive or double drive version. (The double drive version is already fitted with Scotch tension for easy use as a single drive.) Either style can be ordered finished or unfinished. If you order the unfinished wheel, you will need to finish it with oil or lacquer before use. Both the unfinished and lacquered versions ship ready to assemble.
