Detailed Description

The spinning class listed below is suitable for spinners who have been actively spinning on a treadle wheel or electric wheel and are looking to expand their technical skills. If you know how to spin, but it has been a few years since you sat at a spinning wheel, please take the Beginning class first.

INTERMEDIATE SPINNING: PLYING TECHNIQUES

June 13 (Sat.) 12:30-4:30 p.m.

You can spin a single ply yarn-- what's next? We will take your singles and create 2 ply and 3 ply yarns and learn how to chain ply. Learn how to set up your wheel for plying; and discuss twist angle and what size single you need to achieve the yarn you want. You will need a minimum of 1-2 ounces total of handspun singles in the range of 9-13 wraps per inch prepared for plying. Split your prepared singles onto 3 separate bobbins. You will need at least 1 empty bobbin. You will need to bring either a treadle wheel or an electric wheel. Prepared singles can be spun in solid colors or painted braids in 100% wool fiber. Polwarth, Corriedale Cross, Cheviot, BFL, or Targhee would be wonderful. By Tabetha Evans.
