We see lots of mitten designs but gloves are a little harder to come by. These elegant gloves are as pretty as can be, with a symmetrical cable on the back of the hand and long ribbed cuff. Each glove is worked in the round, with the thumb and fingers also worked as tiny tubes. The 15-stitch, 4-row cable repeat is worked following a chart. The gloves measure approximately 7" around the palm and 10" long. They can be hand washed and dried flat. Berroco rates this Alison Green design as requiring intermediate skill level.
A smooth yarn shows off the detailed cable that you see in this design. You also want a warm yarn for gloves. With Berroco's Quechua, you get both. Its smooth surface shows pattern stitches clearly and the Merino/alpaca/yak fiber content means your fingers will be toasty. It is a sport weight yarn that is knit firmly in this design at 7 stitches per inch.
The kit includes the pattern and the yarn. For this project you will also need:
- double point needles in size US 2 OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
- 5 stitch markers, with a distict one for beginning of round
- cable needle
- waste yarn to hold stitches
- tapestry needle
