Freer is an understated beauty. It combines a simple lace motif with lots of stockinette but the overall shaping and interesting texture make it a winner. The body is knit in one piece, beginning at the bottom. The lace pattern is worked following a chart. The sleeves are knit separately in the round and then at the armholes, the sleeves and body are joined and worked upward to the neck with raglan shaping. Stitches are picked up and knit in garter stitch for simple neck and button bands. Finished chest measurements are 33 (37, 41, 45, 49, 53, 57, 61)" and finished lengths are 22 (22.5, 23, 23.75, 24.75, 25.5, 25.5, 26)". Berroco has given this Alison Green design a difficulty rating of intermediate.
Freer uses Berroco's thick-and-thin spring and summer yarn called Quinoa. It is 91% cotton and 9% nylon, with irregular slubs that create a casual, pebbly texture. It is a DK weight yarn but it is knit here at a slightly looser gauge of 5 stitches per inch in stockinette. Quinoa can be machine washed on gentle and dried flat.
