Generously sized and with thoughtful color placement, Bracken is a shawl that you will wear like a like a fashion accessory but it is also a lifeline on a cold day. It is worked in single rib throughout, so it won't curl. The finished scarf measures 23" x 82.75". This project was designed by Erika Knight and is rated by Rowan as skill level beginner: basic shaping and straightforward stitch techniques.
Bracken uses two yarns from Rowan that we love: Felted Tweed and Alpaca Classic. Felted Tweed mixes Merino wool, alpaca, and viscose into a heathery, tweedy yarn. Alpaca Classic is made from a cotton mesh that is filled with alpaca fiber. Both are soft, warm yarns that are perfect for a shawl. They are sport/DK weight and are knit in this project at 7.5 stitches per inch in rib.
The kit includes the pattern (and full issue of Rowan Magazine 68) and yarn for the shawl in the colors shown. For this project you will also need:
- single point needles in US size 5 OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
- tapestry needle
Note: This project will give you a chance to use the metric side of your tape measure because the directions for stripe width are given in centimeters.
